Vale Charlie Martin

23 May 1957 - 23 August 2026

It is with a great sadness to hear of the recent passing of Charlie Martin last Sunday (23rd August 2026). 

Charlie Martin is a Hockey Victoria Life Member and was heavly involved in the various championships like Victorian Women's Country Championship, JCC and SCC, Australian Masters Games over the years.

Charlie took to umpiring early in his hockey career, where he was a natural officiating the games where he applied the rules in a common sense manner.    Throughout the 80s and 90s, Charlie organised the umpiring and oversaw the Victorian Women's Country Championships event in Geelong for many years.  When the championship moved to Melbourne, Charlie followed suit and continue to lead the event. 

He became a Hockey Geelong Life Member in 2008.  Then a Hockey Victoria Life Member in 2019.

Charlie is survived by Bev and two sons, Jim and Ben, daughters-in-law Lucy and Leah and grandchildren in Thomas, Noah and Orla.

The funeral for Charlie Martin is on Monday 31 August at Quinn Funerals Chapel at Wesley Place, 15 Skene Street, Colac from 1.00pm. A private burial shall take place after.
